Some people cranked out a kid on 11/11/11 and named him- wait for it- DOVAHKIIN. Yes, that’s “Dragonborn” in Dragon Language, as you’d know if you were playing The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim.

This was for a contest for Bethesda. Their prize? Free Bethesda games for life! Certainly something that’s worth hundreds of dollars! And perhaps some traffic to their little webcomic.

They defend their decision on that site. “We saw something so special in this contest beyond the monetary and even beyond the fame. It was a statement: ‘I am me by choice, not by the design of others. I will not be shut down by they.’” Well, actually, he is he by the design of Bethesda. It’s not about your kid getting teased, it’s about him getting named after a goddamn video game character.

Hey, at least that Turok kid got 10 grand.
