My first of what will hopefully be many reviews for Joblo.com!

Lucio Fulci’s Zombie is playing theaters on the 21st and 22nd with a brand new print that’s supposed to be absolutely beautiful. I am not missing this.

Resident Evil 4- Still Great

Capcom just sent along codes for Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Code Veronica X, both prettied up in their new HD versions for Xbox 360 and PS3. Resident Evil 4 looks absolutely beautiful and still plays quite well, even though games have made big advances since this one standardized the over-the-shoulder cam for third person games.

More than this I’m excited to play through Code Veronica again, since I haven’t played it since it first hit the Dreamcast eleven (!) years ago. I’m sure it hasn’t aged too well (since I found it a little hard to get back into Resident Evil 2 recently) but that one was my favorite for quite a while.

So I’m actually glad to see these new versions, with all the extra modes from all the various versions. The price for these is a little unsettling, though. 20 bucks a pop? C’mon, Capcom… these should should have been half that price.

Kickstopper

Last week I decided to join up on Kickstarter and help out Eaten By Zombies!, a card game by Max Holliday that’s being published by Mayday Games. The game looks like a lot of fun, a zombie themed take on the deck-building game that Dominion made so popular, with enough of a twist to make it stand out on its own. It was a bit strange to me to see an already-established company use the website to get funding when they already had the game produced and were already taking preorders (isn’t it to get projects off the ground?) but hey, it was cheap and it was nice to feel like I was helping a first-time designer.

Not any more. Just read his recent blog on Board Game Geek about the design of the game and came across this gem-

“I felt that at the games core I had something. I didn’t know what but something was there. Something that was fun even if someone didn’t like Zombie game or Zombies but if they hated Zombies than there was nothing I could do… Maybe I should do a version of the game with dragons, I’ll call it ‘The game you wouldn’t play before, but I’m sure you’ll buy it now because it looks like a rip off of Tolkien!’ Did I mention my biggest turn off when it comes to games is dragons… not that I hate Dragons I just hate Tolkien with frou-frou elves and his gay dwarfs and the search for costume jewelry! Think about it Both his dwarfs are gay… one likes their women with whiskers just like almost every gay male friend I have and if Frodo and the fat kid look any more longing at each other we’re going to have a ‘Broke Back Mordor’ kind of situation!!! Maybe I should just write a script about drag-queens shopping and call it ‘Queens of the Ring’?”

Never mind that the guy has a horrible grasp of the English language, but he’s a piece of shit homophobe as well! One who even has the balls to throw that usual “hey I have a gay friend” excuse in there to try and make it better.

Canceled my pledge right quick.

It’s funny, cause I was just talking with friends about trying to disconnect the artist from the art (about Mel Gibson in The Beaver) and I mentioned how I can usually put aside what the people are like and enjoy the product for itself. But in this case, I just don’t feel like contributing to the game’s already overwhelming sucess.

I forgot how many games are coming out in the next few months. Dead Island is the next, hitting next Tuesday. The game would have sold me just with that first cinematic trailer (really one of my favorite gaming trailers ever) but from what I’ve been hearing, the co-op is aces. Can’t wait to try it out.

If you’re interested in the backstory behind these characters, Deep Silver released a short comic through Marvel that you can read online here- https://subscriptions.marvel.com/digitalcomics/view_white.htm?iid=22757

Suda 51 and James Gunn. Bet you never thought this match-up would happen. Can’t wait for this after seeing how well Suda 51’s collaboration on Shadows of the Damned worked out.

(Watch out for the zombie baby hand creeping in.)
One of the many bad things about working overnight is that the UPS and Fedex guys inevitably wake you up just as you’re getting some REM sleep. I get a lot of mail from PR folks, some of it incredibly cool stuff that wakes me up immediately but others that make me roll my eyes and wish I hadn’t bothered answering the bell. This one’s both.
For those who don’t know, this is to promote that new DLC pack “Escalation” for Call of Duty: Black Ops. The one zombie map that it comes with also includes new characters to play as - Danny Trejo, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Robert Englund, Michael Rooker and some old guy with huge glasses and a life vest. They’re all voiced by the actual folks, too. It’s very easy to get tired of the zombie mode in Call of Duty but this should at least give it a little replay value. Not that I’d ever pay 15 bucks for the fucking thing (stop doing that, people!)
